Best of the Best 2012

Best of the Best 2012

An Awards Dinner was held on the first night of LabelExpo Brussels (the pre-eminent world wide label exhibition) in September 2013 in order to present five new Global awards to the "Best of the Best"  from the World Label Awards of 2012.

22 Golds had previously been awarded across five different technologies. The "Best of the Best" was intended to recognise one winner for each technology being Flexo, Letterpress, Offset, Digital and Combination (being a job run using more than one of the preceding four technologies).

We had won a gold for "The Colour", our award winning label from Pride in Print 2012, and this had been entered into Class 16: Combination Wines & Spirits.

We then won a World Label Award so we were in contention for one of the five "Best of the Best" awards.

Tony Wheeler, our Technical Director at the time, was in Belgium to receive our "Best of the Best" Award, for the Combination category. We were up against label companies from Japan and Austria.

We were very pleased (sitting back in little old New Zealand) to add another string to our bow, and we have made some room on the wall in our Piha Meeting Room to hang the very heavy award Tony brought back in his luggage from Europe!

Here is what the judges said about our label. "This is a true combination label using flexo, screen and letterpress technology and it doesn't end there: foiling, high build varnish and embossing all add up to a stunning result. It looks an incredibly complicated label with the dense black background, the brilliant white lettering and the bright red seal, not forgetting the line illustration of prospectors panning for gold. The whole label, along with the story giving the background, builds up to supporting the product inside. The detail in the framing around the main part of the label is really well done. These few words cannot do justice to the final result. Great job; well done."

Here is Tony (he's on the far RHS) at the Awards in Brussels, along with the other four winners of the night. Well done to us!
